Philando Divall Castile was born on July 16, 1983, in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from Saint Paul Central High School in 2001 and got a job working for the Saint Paul Public School District from 2002 until his death.

 

Philando started his career as a nutrition services assistant at Chelsea Heights Elementary School and Arlington High School, both in St. Paul, Minnesota.

He then moved on to a higher position at JJ Hill Montessori Magnet School in St. Paul in August 2014.

Philando was killed by police in 2016. On the day of his funeral, following the service, his family honored him by serving free hot dogs and hamburgers to the community outside of the school where he worked.

In remembrance of Philando Castile, the Philando Castile Memorial Scholarship was established at St. Paul Central High School.
