REKIA BOYD
Rekia Boyd was born on November 5, 1989, in Chicago, Illinois. She moved with her family from Chicago’s Southside to Dolton, Illinois, a Chicago suburb.
According to her brother, Martin Sutton, Rekia was passionate about creating safer environments for women and children.
Rekia was killed by police in 2012.
Many, including her brother, have suggested that her death received little coverage outside of her native Chicago because she was a woman of color.
